Your roundup of everything you need to know regarding injuries around the league going into Week 6:

  • RB Jaylen Warren (knee) - Prior to going down with his injury, Warren had worked his way up to a bell-cow role in the Steelers offense; he notched a 78% snap share, 81% rush attempt share, and 29% target share the last time we saw him on the field in Week 3. Kenneth Gainwell filled in strongly in Week 4 without Warren, and coming out of the bye in Week 5, the team says that the ā€˜arrow is pointed up’ for Warren to be back in Week 6. There’s a chance that Pittsburgh eases Warren back in off his injury, but he’ll be in the RB2 conversation once again if he’s ultimately able to suit up for the Steelers’ Week 6 showdown against the Browns.

  • RB Saquon Barkley (knee) - It was described as ā€˜general soreness’ for Barkley, who hasn’t enjoyed quite the success this year that he had during his record-breaking 2024 season. Whether this is the Madden curse rearing its ugly head or not remains to be seen, but Barkley was estimated as a DNP on Monday with the Eagles’ game against the Giants happening on Thursday. The general consensus is that he’ll play on Thursday, but it’s a situation worth monitoring for a player who was taken often in the top-3 of fantasy drafts this season.

  • RB Omarion Hampton (ankle) - Hampton will miss at least the next four games with his ankle injury, but Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh indicated that the number of games he’ll miss on IR won’t extend beyond the league-mandated four weeks. In the meantime, both Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal are worth rostering, with Vidal being a preferred pickup thanks to his ability in the receiving game. The Chargers Oline is banged up and struggling, and like Hampton was before he got hurt, Haskins could have a hard time finding the end zone as a result, The pass catching role could prove to be lucrative for Vidal, especially if LA leans into the passing game down their top two RBs coming into the season.

  • RB Antonio Gibson (ACL) - Obviously wishing Gibson a fast and full recovery, but his injury has broader implications on the rest of the Patriots backfield – perhaps most importantly on Treveyon Henderson’s potential playing time. New England has insisted on using Rhamondre Stevenson, Henderson, and even Gibson in a three-man rotation up until this past weekend, but with Gibson out for the rest of the season, the door could be open for more opportunities for Henderson, If he can capitalize, we could start to see him emerge over the next few weeks, but don’t be surprised if the backfield split continues to be frustrating even with Rhamondre working through fumbling issues of his own.

  • RB Chuba Hubbard (calf) - HC Dave Canales said this week that Hubbard would be considered ā€˜day-to-day’ as he works back from an injury that sidelined him for this past weekend’s game against the Dolphins. That absence famously paved the way for Rico Dowdle’s 236 scrimmage yard performance, which could wind up nudging the Panthers’ coaching staff to take their time and not rush Hubbard back into the lineup earlier than necessary. Worse, it could shift the share of touches in the backfield closer to a 50/50 split, which would make it difficult to trust either of Hubbard or Dowdle on a weekly basis as anything other than flex/RB3 candidates. Nothing is written yet, of course, and Hubbard will likely still get the first crack at work in the backfield – but Dowdle certainly earned himself a slightly larger role at the very least with his career game in Week 5.

The Browns are trading their former starting QB Joe Flacco and a sixth-round pick to the Bengals in exchange for a 5th round pick

  • Wrong former Cleveland Browns quarterback, Bengals. In a world that demanded the Bengals trade for Jameis Winston for the sake of Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Chase Brown, fantasy managers will instead be forced to look forward to Flacco under center for the next two months while Joe Burrow continues to recover from his turf toe injury. It’s not the worst move in the world – Joe Flacco has done his fair share of reviving offenses in the twilight of his career, namely in Cleveland during his first stint there and in Indianapolis last year – but it’s hard to expect a 40-something year old quarterback to thrive behind one of the league’s worst offensive lines. Because Flacco is only just now joining the team mid-week, there’s a chance that Browning gets one more chance under center to prove he belongs before he’s ultimately unseated by the veteran. In the grand scheme of things, this is a net positive for Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, as Flacco is at least competent in the passing game compared to what Browning has delivered on the field in relief of Burrow. There’s a chance that the offense could take a step forward far enough, too, that Chase brown could start to reap some benefits, but that’s a glass half full take considering the state of the Bengals offensive line. Back in Cleveland, Dillon Gabriel is cemented as the starter for the team for the time being, while Shedeur Sanders slides up to the QB2 spot. If Gabriel struggles at all the rest of the way, Sanders could potentially see the field – but there’s no reason to grab the former Colorado QB just yet.

Jaguars place TE Brenton Strange on IR with a hip injury, will miss at least the next four games

  • Maybe this will be kick in the rear the Jaguars needed to start getting the ball to underperforming WRs Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter more moving forward. Not including his partial game on Monday, Strange was commanding a 17% target share from Trevor Lawrence – just ahead of Travis Hunters 16% share and behind Thomas Jr.’s 24%. Without Strange in the lineup, TE Hunter Long stepped up with a 63% route participation but earned just a 4% target share, so there are better options available elsewhere for anyone who was streaming Strange before he went down. Ideally, the displaced targets land in the hands of the two star receivers in Thomas and Hunter – however, Lawrence has topped 225 passing yards just once this season and the passing game has been a disappointment so far this season, especially with Liam Coen at the helm. With Strange out, no immediate upgrades for the Jags pass catchers are necessary, but it’s worth keeping a close eye on how the target distribution shakes out next week against the Seahawks without him in the lineup.

If it’s time to make a trade or grab some players off waivers, you’re going to need to drop a player or two from your roster. Here are 10 players you can drop today and not look back.

  1. Jayden Reed - WR, GB

    1. He’s way too highly rostered. If you need the room and you have someone else you can add to your IR spot, there’s no reason to keep him. You’re still going to have to wait 6+ weeks before you can even think about putting him in your lineup, and even then, he won’t even be a full-time receiver given his slot role. Drop em.

  2. Marvin Mims - WR, DEN

    1. Mims had like one good game this year, but he’s not a full time player. Troy Franklin is the clear #2 option behind Courtland Sutton right now, and even Engram is starting to get in the mix. Drop em.

  3. Kaleb Johnson - RB, PIT

    1. Why is he still so highly rostered? He had his opportunity in Week 4 without Jaylen Warren, and hardly saw any work. Don’t clog your roster - stash a real handcuff instead - drop em.

  4. Braelon Allen - RB, NYJ

    1. Allen will be out for 8-12 weeks, Isaiah Davis is now the new Breece Hall handcuff to roster - drop Braelon Allen.

  5. Justice Hill - RB, BAL

    1. The Ravens might be in a negative game script this week against the Rams, so if you don’t plan on playing Hill, drop him - they have the bye the following week, and Lamar will be back in Week 8. His production is all over the place, and he’s not even in the handcuff to Derrick Henry - Keaton Mitchell is. Drop em.

  6. Jerry Jeudy - WR, CLE

    1. This one’s tough, because he’s been seeing the targets. But he’s averaging only 3 catches per game, it doesn’t look like it’s going to get much better with Dillon Gabriel, and Isaiah Bond is the WR this offense is trying to get the ball to. Drop em. If you have to.

  7. Chris Rodriguez - RB, WAS

    1. Bill is the guy in Washington - the only name you need to know. Drop Chris Rodriguez if you have em.

  8. Malik Washington - WR, MIA

    1. With Tyreek Hill out, it was Jaylen Waddle and Evan Engram leading the way. There might be room for a third pass catcher, but it won’t be consistent. Washington serves as a handcuff-type to either guy, but perfectly fine moving on if you need the room.

  9. Sean Tucker - RB, TB

    1. Rachaad White is the clear guy in Tampa - 80% of the snaps, Tucker barely got any run. Tucker’s the handcuff to White though, so you can roster him for that reason. Otherwise, drop his ass.

  10. Elic Ayomanor - WR, TEN

    1. He showed a lot of good signs - the breakout can happen, but this offense is so bad - barely any signs of life. Calvin Ridley woke up, but can two WRs thrive in Tennessee? I doubt it. If you need the room for a more high impact pickup, I’m fine moving on from Ayomanor to go clog up someone else’s roster.
