  • 49ers TE George Kittle misses practice Thursday with hamstring injury, status for Week 3 up in the air

    • Add Kittle to the list of injuries piling up for the 49ers ahead of Week 3. With Christian McCaffrey already on IR and Deebo Samuel likely to miss a few weeks with his own injury, Brock Purdy could potentially face Week 3 with three of his four Avengers on offense out of commission. Fantasy managers should look to the waiver wire for a potential backup tight end should he ultimately be ruled out, but considering the timing of the injury and finicky nature of hamstrings, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Kittle sidelined this weekend. With a great matchup against the Rams’ secondary and Tre’Davious White, WR Brandon Aiyuk is a must-start in all formats with most, if not all of his significant target competition either already out or questionable. Brock Purdy could slide in the rankings a bit after getting off to a slow start through two weeks, especially with his offensive arsenal seemingly dwindling by the day.

  • Titans RB Tyjae Spears practiced Thursday as he works through ankle injury suffered in Week 2

    • Spears’ overall workload was capped for the second straight week as a result of him going down with the injury last week against the Jets. Titans HC Brian Callahan had spoken in the wake of Tennessee’s Week 1 loss to the Bears and said that he wanted to get Spears more involved and divvy up touches a bit more evenly between Spears and Pollard –but it’s hard to do that when Spears wasn’t on the field for parts of the game. After initially appearing to be questionable earlier this week, Spears is practicing and appears to be on track to play in Week 3. In their lone healthy game together, Pollard handled the majority of the rushing attempts while Spears ran a majority of the backfield routes. If Callahan sticks to his word, we could potentially see Spears take on an expanded role in the offense – however, with Will Levis off to a shaky start to begin the year, the overall fantasy ceiling for the offense remains relatively low. Pollard can be started as a mid-low RB2 this week regardless of whether Spears plays, while Spears profiles more as a flex option at best.

  • Packers QB Jordan Love takes part in practice Thursday after missing Week 2, reportedly has chance to play in Week 3

    • The panic in Brazil in Week 1 sure does feel like a distant memory with Love participating in practice less than two weeks removed from what appeared to be a significant knee injury at the time. The Packers were able to not only make do with QB Malik Willis under center last week, but also snag a win against the Colts. However, their offensive gameplan looked like something out of the 1940s, with the Green Bay pass catchers relegated to blocking assignment after blocking assignment while running just 17 routes on the afternoon. That’s likely to change for the better as soon as Love gets back on the field, which HC Matt LaFleur has hinted could possibly happen as early as this week. While there’s no guarantee that he’s able to play in Week 3, he’s at least trending in a very positive direction and appears to be primed to be ready to go for Week 4 at the latest. Fantasy managers should continue to have a backup plan in place going into the weekend in the event Green Bay would opt to exercise caution and hold him out of Sunday’s game against the Titans – however, Love seems to be in a good spot in his recovery and shouldn’t miss much more, if any, time moving forward.

  • Bengals WR Tee Higgins returns to practice Thursday, has best shot of making 2024 debut this week vs Commanders

    • Talk about perfect timing for a return as a fantasy wide receiver. The Commanders have continued to nothing short of kindling for NFL passing attacks, being scorched time and again en route to allowing the most fantasy points per game to wide receivers through two weeks. Higgins (hamstring) has missed the first two games of the season, a time in which the Bengals offense has largely floundered and been unable to find its footing. A large part of their struggles to move the ball has been a result of an inability to get star WR Ja’Marr Chase involved, as he sits as only the WR40 on the young fantasy year. While Higgins’ return would provide additional competition for targets from Joe Burrow, it would also spread defenses out and prevent them from focusing all of their attention on Chase. Overall, the return of Higgins to the starting lineup brings many more benefits than drawbacks to a Cincinnati offense that, once again, is lacking an identity in the early going. If Higgins is able to play, he’ll be an upside low-WR2 with a significantly low floor this week as he ramps up to game speed.

  1. Jayden Daniels (QB - Washington Commanders)

    • We've just seen Daniels' floor for fantasy: just no TDs and only 10 rushing attempts. He was still the QB18. That's the absolute floor.

    • Through two weeks, Daniels hasn't thrown a TD and has been hyper-conservative with a mere 4.9 aDOT (2nd-lowest) and 5.7% of passes being deep balls (4th-lowest), but he still is the QB6 in fantasy.

    • I'd be fairly confident to say his 13-point performance in Week 2 is either the lowest or among the lowest he sees in all of 2024. This is a perfect chance to get what should be a stable QB1 with high-QB1 upside for a massive discount, especially considering we haven't even seen him come close to his ceiling. He has league-winning potential.

  2. Travis Kelce (TE - Kansas City Chiefs)

    • Through the first two games of 2024, Kelce has just 4 catches for 39 yards - the lowest yardage output in any two-game stretch in his career.

    • With Isiah Pacheco (broken fibula, out 6+ weeks) and Marquise Brown (shoulder, out for the season) both sidelined, the Chiefs' offense is almost certain to be extremely pass-heavy going forward, so Kelce will be forced to be involved substantially more than the opening two weeks of the season.

    • He may not be his former elite TE1 self, but it would be quite a surprise to see him finish outside the top 6 in scoring, even after such a poor start. I'm targeting him this week after back-to-back underwhelming performances in the hopes of flipping a mid-to-low TE1 (i.e. Kittle, Likely, Pitts) plus a bench piece to buy low on Kelce.

  3. Bijan Robinson (RB - Atlanta Falcons)

    • There may not be a safer RB in fantasy right now than Bijan, getting 18+ touches and 16+ fantasy points in each of the first two weeks of the season, and there still feels to be a lot of 'meat on the bone' left to be had for Robinson.

    • He hasn't come close to hitting his ceiling, failing to find the endzone in any capacity (he's the highest-scoring RB to fail to do such) due to the Falcons' offense being relatively stagnant through the first two games (Bijan has just 2 carries in the redzone). The offense did appear to find its rhythm late in the game last week, so it shouldn't be long before Bijan begins finding the endzone, taking his solid performances into week-winning ones.

    • I'm targeting Bijan to try and get an elite-RB1 (my overall RB1) for the rest of the season at what should be a major discount relative to his anticipated future value. Perhaps using a high-producer so far (i.e. Alvin Kamara, De'Von Achane, James Cook) as a key trade piece to upgrade to Bijan may be a route to get him.
