Josh Palmer Beats Quentin Johnston for the No. 3 job 😳

Plus, Zack Moss is recovering ahead of schedule – and who's the Rams' WR1 if Kupp misses time?

All of the most important fantasy news over the last 24 hours – all in one place.

  • Colts RB Zack Moss on schedule to return to action by Week 3 at the latest, and as early as Week 2

    • With Jonathan Taylor sidelined until at least Week 5, the Colts will rely on a rotation between Deon Jackson, Evan Hull, and Zack Moss whenever he returns from injury. While Moss was originally projected to take on the lead role in the backfield in Taylor’s absence, it’s unlikely that he maintains a stranglehold on the majority of work in Indy even once he’s back in the lineup. No Colts RB is likely to finish as anything higher than an RB2 in the time that Taylor misses, and for that reason, should not be chased in drafts as temporary potential stars.

  • The Athletic’s Daniel Popper says that WR Josh Palmer will start over rookie WR Quentin Johnston as the Chargers WR3

    • And with that, the book is officially closed on Quentin Johnston’s chances to have an immediate impact in Los Angeles. It seems like the Chargers have given him every opportunity to take the job from Palmer, but Johnston has struggled throughout the preseason with drops and now assumes the WR4 role in the Chargers offense. While it would be foolish to assume that Johnston can’t improve during the regular season and ascend the depth chart, his utility to fantasy managers will remain low until he begins to see an acceptable snap share for fantasy football.

  • The Athletic’s Jordan Rodrigue says that Van Jefferson would step into the Rams’ No. 1 receiving role if Cooper Kupp were to miss time

    • The expectation has been that Jefferson could see an expanded role if Kupp would begin to miss regular season action, so this isn’t necessarily surprising news. However, without Kupp in the lineup, the distribution among pass catchers in LA would be more evenly spread than it has been historically with Kupp active on game day. Among other names to watch in the Rams offense is TE Tyler Higbee, who has had a knack for garnering targets throughout his career regardless of whether or not Kupp suits up. The Rams offense will most likely not be very good in 2023 without Kupp, so it’s important to temper expectations for other Rams pass catchers if he would find himself stuck on the sideline next Sunday.
