Colts QB Anthony Richardson set to return in Week 7; WRs Josh Downs, Michael Pittman Jr. both miss practice Wednesday
With Richardson ready to return to action, the glorious air raid ride we’ve been on these past couple weeks with Joe Flacco starting is set to come to a close. With the second year QB under center, the Colts have been reluctant to throw the ball at a high rate despite having excellent weapons on the perimeter in Pittman, Downs, and co. Speaking of Pittman and Downs, both players missed practice to open the week this week. Normally, this would be a bad sign for their availability this weekend – however, this is likely load management after both pass catchers played through their injuries last weekend and each found the end zone against the Jaguars in Week 6. Indy’s passing game has its work cut out for itself this week against the Dolphins, though, as the Dolphins are allowing the fewest fantasy points per game to quarterbacks through six weeks. Despite the downgrade at quarterback in terms of overall passing volume, Downs should remain in lineups as a low-WR2/high-WR3, while Pittman could make sense as a flex target with WR3 upside. The ceiling for the Colts offense is lowered at this point by Richardson’s return, but the hope is he can improve his play this season to command a consistently relevant fantasy team.
Saints WRs Chris Olave (concussion) and Rashid Shaheed (meniscus) ruled out for New Orleans’ Week 7 game vs Broncos tonight
That Olave was ruled out just a handful of days after sustaining a concussion in Week 6 on Sunday isn’t news to anybody – the league’s concussion protocol doesn’t allow players to return from the injury that fast often, if ever. That being said, his absence was supposed to open things up for WR Rashid Shaheed, who is also now out for tonight’s game vs the Broncos with a knee injury. The current understanding is that it’s a knee injury for Shaheed – specifically the meniscus – and that any complete reconstruction surgery has the potential to end Shaheed’s season today. There’s also a possibility that Shaheed could only need a trim to his meniscus, which would likely put him on a ~4 week recovery timeline. Either way, it seems like things have gone from 0 to 100 with the injury, and a stint on IR (either short-term or season-ending) seems to be in the cards. With the Saints already starting Spencer Rattler in place of the injured Derek Carr, there’s not a whole lot to be excited about with the Saints offense for tonight’s game against the Broncos besides Alvin Kamara. Bub Means, the rookie WR who came on in place of Chris Olave last week, is a desperate flex/low-WR3 play with Pat Surtain also out with a concussion of his own.
BUY WR Ladd McConkey, NO
McConkey would be fantasy star as a rookie with Justin Herbert… if the Chargers weren’t in such a run-heavy and slow offense. If he was getting the team-leading 26% target share he’s currently getting on a normal offense, he’d be a clear every-week WR2. Despite that, he’s still due for bigger days based on his current volume, and could’ve had a bigger day last week if he wasn’t stopped at the one yard line. If the Chargers are forced to throw, McConkey should have a blowup game. The four games where he didn’t go crazy were Vegas, Carolina with Bryce Young, Pittsburgh, and Denver. The one game he scored more than 15 fantasy points was against the Chiefs. He’s an even bigger dynasty buy, because he’s confirmed legit through five career games.
BUY RB Kenneth Walker III, SEA
Walker isn’t coming off a down game, but he might not be perceived as a Top-5 RB just yet - because that’s what he is right now. 14 carries and 8 targets last week? Another 8 targets the week before? This is high-end RB1 type of opportunity. Walker is tied for the league lead among all RBs in targets/game with Alvin Kamara. Only Kamara and Kyren Williams have more expected fantasy points/game based on their opportunity this season. He has some good matchups coming up before his bye, so don’t let Walker managers realize what they actually have on their hands.
SELL TE Cole Kmet, CHI
If I have Kmet, I’m totally fine starting him every week. But I would try to package him up with another player, and try to get one of the big three at tight end: Kittle, Bowers, McBride. See what those teams need, and try to offer them someone who can help their starting lineup, while they knowingly take a hit at TE. Kmet coming off a big week eases the blow a bit. The Bears offense will remain crowded, targets will vary across their options, and it took a down week from DJ Moore for Kmet to have a big game. I’d try and sell high.
