  • Saints QB Derek Carr reportedly dealing with significant shoulder injury that could threaten his availability for 2025

    • The injury was first reported late last week and came largely out of left field. Prior to the announcement of Carr’s ailing shoulder, it was already obvious that there was uncertainty – if not tension – in the air surrounding Carr’s future with the Saints just two years into his four-year, $150M deal signed in 2023. Now, the outlook for Carr and his fantasy managers is even murkier with the added wrinkle of this shoulder injury. With a brand new coaching staff coming in under former Eagles OC Kellen Moore (who has neglected to throw concrete support behind Carr as the team’s starter), it’s fair to question just how safe Carr’s job as the QB1 in New Orleans is. His play on the field last season certainly didn’t help the cause, but a roster that was whittled down severely by injuries can certainly be partially blamed for the Saints’ post-Week 2 collapse. Regardless, reports have emerged recently that the Saints are doing their due diligence on Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, who has slid down draft boards in recent weeks right into range for New Orleans (who currently hold the 9th selection in the first round). Given the unspecified nature of Carr’s injury and the non-existent timeline as of today for a potential amount of games he could miss as a result of it, the Saints appear to be pigeonholed into selecting a signal caller in the 2025 draft – which means Carr could face competition this summer even if he does wind up being healthy enough to play this year.

  • Browns sign veteran QB Joe Flacco to a one-year deal worth $4M base and up to $13M in incentives for 2025

    • Not exactly the 40+ year old signal caller everyone has been waiting on to sign, but a notable one regardless given his familiarity with the Browns and his relatively high quality of play despite his age. The last time Flacco donned the brown and orange, he was serving up dimes to Amari Cooper and David Njoku en route to finishing as a fantasy QB1 in the stretch of games that he started in 2023. His new deal is only worth a few million, so his spot as a starting QB on the roster is hardly guaranteed – but given the underwhelming competition that exists Cleveland’s QB room today (Kenny Pickett and Deshaun Watson with one achilles tendon), Flacco could realistically draw a few starts if the Browns don’t add another player to the mix the rest of the offseason. That seems highly unlikely given how dire the QB situation is and an entire draft class of quarterbacks available in next week’s draft, but if Cleveland doesn’t come away with one of the top signal callers (Cam Ward, Sheduer Sanders, Jaxson Dart, or another high profile name like Jalen Milroe), Flacco could be in a legitimate competition for the QB1 job to open the 2025 season come training camp. He isn’t exactly Jameis Winston in terms of elevating the fantasy prospects of the receivers around him, but he’s proven he can sustain more than one fantasy relevant pass catcher despite being well past his prime.

  • Cowboys QB Dak Prescott continuing to progress in recovery from hamstring avulsion as scheduled

    • Prescott suffered the season-ending injury during a Week 9 clash with the Falcons last season which left the teams in the hands of Cooper Rush. He was able to support Ceedee Lamb as a serviceable fantasy WR1, but the upside of the Cowboys offense overall bottomed out with Dak’s departure from the lineup. Dak himself came out and said that he could play in a game today if there were one, but that’s likely window dressing given the fact that there are, in fact, no games until ~5 months from now and no pressure to get back onto the field in any sort of rush. Assuming Prescott is able to maintain his positive trajectory in his return to action from the injury, things should be back to normal in the Cowboys offense to begin the 2025 season in their first year of the post-McCarthy era. On the off chance that Prescott would suffer any kind of setback in his recovery, however, recently acquired QB Joe Milton would likely pick up the slack in training camp and potentially into the season if Prescott’s timeline would necessitate it. Milton famously looked like Superman in a meaningless Week 18 matchup against the Bills last year, and that performance was enough for the Cowboys to take a flier on him as a backup for Dak heading into the new season. Prescott has missed at least five games in three of his last five seasons, meaning there’s a much greater than non-zero chance that we see Milton suit up for Dallas sometime in 2025. For the time being, though, Prescott appears on schedule to reunite with 2023 fantasy WR1 Ceedee Lamb as the two look to get back to their league-winning ways for the Cowboys and fantasy managers alike.

Faraz identified five rookies from the 2025 draft class that he is higher on than consensus with just a week to go until the NFL Draft! Read on to see who he likes more than most…

Cam Skattebo - RB4 up from consensus RB6

Skattebo’s punishing run style is the most obvious attribute when watching him, but he’s elusive as well, and he’s a plus in the receiving game. He’s what fantasy RBs are made of. Goal line, early down, receiving upside, and one of the most efficient RBs in this class. Hoping for Day 2 draft capital.

Jarquez Hunter - RB10 up from RB18

When a RB is undersized, we have to see if they bring some oomph to the table, and whether they can outperform any concerns around size… and Hunter does that. He’s simply one of the most efficient rushers in this class, but it is worth noting that he’s never handled a huge workload. There’s a good chance he is a committee back, but has the upside of being a productive 1A in the right scheme.

Damien Martinez - RB11 up from RB14

Martinez has the elusiveness of a smaller back in a big body frame. He can handle a big workload, and can be a team’s early down workhorse. He showed efficiency throughout his career at different programs, and can be a Day 3 target for team’s looking for that type of back.

Jack Bech - WR9 up from WR12

I won’t be able to get over Bech outperforming Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr as a freshman at LSU before transferring out. Bech was one of the standout WRs during Senior Bowl week, where he displayed his route running, hands, and contested catch ability. The big red flag for Bech is his overall subpar production and efficiency profiles. He’s one of my film > spreadsheet guys from this class.

Kyle Williams - WR11 up from WR14

Williams was another WR who performed well during Senior Bowl week. He didn’t face the highest level of competition in college, but he did show legit separation skills. He’s getting some Day 2 buzz, so it seems like GMs are seeing something similar with Williams. He has a smaller frame, but his footwork and solid release package allow him to separate consistently. Can’t wait to see where he lands.
